Guest bathroom

This is my new bathroom, all repainted and fluffed up!
Unfortunately, I only have one BEFORE picture and it is on my other post,  Master Bathroom.

This bathroom is ALL NEW.  Newly painted walls of blue and grey with a mocha glaze over.   Cabinets  got a face lift with paint and new knobs.  The construction grade 'hollywood lights' replace with this brown, bronzed out door light.  I love it because it is low light and soft.

Construction grade faucets were replaced with this Glacier Bay faucet.  This was a very inexpensive fixture but installation was ridiculously expensive.   Oh well, I am not a plumber or an electrician.

I then added lots of pictures downloaded off the net in black and white.  Bought the frames at the dollar store which I spray painted white.  Then added simple white shower curtain and new soft, squishy rug.

Laying the vinyl floor was an experience.  Had never done this before.  It is not perfect, and would not encourage anyone to look too close.  However, the box of vinyl flooring was $20 at a discount building materials store and I saved by DIY.  This whole project took me about a month to put together.

Master Bathroom, painting the floors

This is my master bedroom bathroom also newly revamped.  Cabinets and new molding around the mirror with a dark stain, 'bombay' high gloss.  I repainted the counter tops as well.  Easy, just took time time allowing drying, curing.  Also, repainted the floors.  This was another new venture for me and took a few days, due to drying time needed and the varying layers.
First added was the primer (bin 123, or something like that).  Then added a base color (porch grade paint to hold up to moisture, etc).  Then a bronze glaze over that, then painted on the squares, then a high shine gloss protection.  This was done about two months ago and has held up very well, and my husband loved it!Hooking up to Funky Junk Interiors SNS!http://funkyjunkinteriors.blogspot.com

All About Me

I am hooking up to Donna's Funky Junk Interiors in celebration of her, now surpassed 3000 followers event!  I love this woman.  She is amazing.  So here I go...


WHO I AM....I am a mother of two wonderful, beautiful daughters, 28 and 22,-- making their way in the world.  I am a wife of ten years to a great guy, Rusty.  I am a nurse.  I work on the weekends screening psychiatric patients from the Emergency Department.

WHERE I LIVE...Springfield, Missouri.  A small, big town of approximately 200,000 when the colleges are in session.  A nice place to live.  I grew up in St. Louis, MO, until I was 17 and I am glad I moved here.  Very manageable maneuvering around in this town.

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT MY HOME...When I was dating my husband he bought this home because he wanted to be closer to work and because I think he knew we would someday get married.   When I would come and visit him it was a white box, and I mean everything was white...white walls, white carpet, white tile, everything.  Nothing wrong with white (wasn't anywhere near some of the pretty, shabby chic white that is out there), but it was stark, cold and had no personality.

Since we have married I have painted EVERY SINGLE SURFACE, sometimes more than once.  It has been hit and miss, but I believe it is becoming 'our home'.  He pretty much gives me free rein to do whatever I want, although there is still a large wall of sound stuff in the living room that I would like to adjust.  It's his house, too, (shoot it is his house that he bought and paid for!) but eventually I think we will find a way to incorporate his sound, stereo stuff with the whatever it is I am trying to achieve in the living room.  It's home.

MY FAVORITE ROOM IS...Currently I love my kitchen and the guest bathroom (recently, almost completely redone from top to bottom from yours truly--still need to get the new light fixture and faucet installed, $$$$--installation costs).

MY FAVORITE THING TO DO DIY WISE...Couldn't say because it is always changing.  I love searching blogland, mostly through Funky Junk Interiors.  There are so many talented, motivated and innovative women out there...I just start making a list and doing what I can.  So much fun!

I WISH I KNEW HOW TO...have the confidence to use power tools.  I can use a drill, but a power saw, I really have to psych myself up to go there...and I haven't yet.  But I love seeing what the rest of you do!  You are amazing!

SOMETHING YOU MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT ME...I don't know....I am pretty much an open book.  No big secrets.

WHY I LOVE TO BLOG...The only reason I started my blog is because of all the wonderful things I have seen the rest of you do and I wanted to get in on the action.  So I had to start a blog.  Donna said so.  I have done a few projects which you can see if you scroll down.  My favorite projects are the redo of a hutch and the crown molding I put up in the kitchen, all by myself, using a hand saw and hammer.

Love the Fall

I changed a few things around in my dining room today so that I could link up to The Inspired Room and join in on Melissa's 3rd annual Fall Nesting Party! Yeah!  Love the Fall, too, and sad to say I am glad to see this scorcher of a summer well behind us.  So here's what I have done in my dining room.

It's cloudy today and has rained all day.  Plus my kitchen/dining room is on the north side of the house, so light is always limited.


I love this sheep picture I got this summer in Eureka Springs, Arkansas at 'Cottage Caboodle'.  She is on the internet under this name and has the most awesome things which can be ordered online.

This picture I have had for years and obtained through the gift shop at the hospital I work.  Always appropriate for the Fall.

Easy crown molding

I am hooking this post to Donna's Funky Junk Interiors Getter Done Projects.   I have always loved crown molding and after seeing this project on another's blogging site, showing easy crown molding using corner pieces (inner and outer) from Lowe's, I had to do it.  Unfortunately, I have no before pictures, but just imagine no molding.  This was kind of labor intensive in that I got the less expensive corners (not hollowed out) so had to work a little harder pounding the nails through, even though there was a pilot hole there.  It might have been worth it to pay the extra $3 per corner piece.  Oh well, live and learn.  Still, I am pleased with the result.

Also, here is my chandelier purchased from 'thebluecabinet' etsy shop for $75.  Really love it, but still need to get ceiling molding for around the top.  I also decided to paint the ceiling, just like the blogger from

The Frugal Farmhouse.  So that's it.  Took me about 4 hours, not counting the caulking or painting the ceiling.  The Blue Cabinet folks were wonderful to work with...go check out their shop, REALLY BEAUTIFUL LIGHTING and top notch customer service!

Halloween mantle

Pulled out some Halloween stuff and starting throwing it up on the mantle.  Still a work in progress.  Also a pic of a chair sitting next to the fireplace with some spider webbing material.

Chalkboard project

Chalkboard--made from a window.  Painted the glass with chalkboard paint.  Then added some pictures found in a book, 'The Collected Drawings of Aubrey Beardsley' by Arthur Symons, 1967.  Here is the picture intially hung on the wall in my kitchen.  Because it looks so 'halloweeny' I moved it to the mantel.
